Becoming a Friar

How do I become of Franciscan?

An important step in becoming a Franciscan involves contacting the vocation director.  He will then send you an initial questionnaire.  Once that questionnaire is returned, the vocation director will likely request a meeting with you.

This is but the beginning of a mutual discernment between the Franciscan community and an Inquirer.  Through prayer, getting to know each other, and a formal application (includes 10 page biography, medical tests, baptismal certificate, etc), the Franciscan community and most especially the Inquirer discern whether or not he should begin the process of formation.

From time of entry until solemn vows, the formation process takes about 5 to 7 years; an extra year is added for those on track for ordination.

Anyone discerning a Religious vocation is advised to have a spiritual director.
