Two of Western Canada’s young Franciscans recently received degrees from Newman Theological College. Dan Gurnick, OFM (B.Th.), and Pierre Ducharme, OFM (M.Div.), were among this year’s graduates at a celebration held in Sherwood Park, Alberta, on October 17, 2009. Graduating Friars have become commonplace at the annual affair, and a trend former NTC Dean Don Macdonald, OFM, is confident will continue. “We expect our guys to be well-formed theologically”, says Macdonald who acts as the secretary of formation for the Franciscan Province of Christ the King. Last year the friars saw Armand Mercier, OFM, receive his M.Th. after earning his M.Div. just one year earlier.
