We are the Franciscans of Canada and on this page, we share news from the whole province. You will find here information about friars or ministries that we want you to introduce to you. Friars who only occasionally contribute to the website also post their writings here.
Guylain Prince is a Franciscan with many talents: Biblical scholar, speaker, priest and choir director. As an author, Fr. Guylain is sensitive to the beauty of nature, where he likes to reflect, meditate and write contemplative works. He has been involved in ministry for more than 25 years, with special attention to the needs of the poor. He is also a very active Facebooker and YouTuber, with almost 5,000 subscribers each, where he comments on biblical texts, songs and musical pieces from the rock scene — especially hard rock, metal and progressive. There and everywhere, he is interested in open dialogue related to the meaning of life and spirituality.
Georges Morin was born in Saint-Célestin, Diocese of Nicolet, in 1936. As a Franciscan friar from Canada, he was a missionary in Korea from 1965 to 1991. He also worked in the Mission Office and the Franciscan Missions magazine, was involved in parish ministry and was active in the Secular Franciscan Order. His areas of interest include the spiritual interpretation of works of art of the great masters (Giotto, Van Gogh, Chagall...), classical music and the new evangelization through art and color.
Friar Michael Perras, OFM was born and raised in rural Saskatchewan, the oldest of four. Along with his siblings he grew up in his parent’s grocery store where he learned about community and service. Brother Michael appreciates quiet moments of prayer, music, Lego, journaling, being creative in the kitchen, lingering meals, socks, collecting quotes and Christmas. One of his greatest joys is being an uncle and a Godfather. His favorite Saints are of course St. Michael, St. Francis and St. Clare. His favorite Bible story is Noah’s Ark and his favorite parable is the Lost Coin in Luke 15. Prior to joining the Franciscans, he served in several communities as a Youth Minister and Pastoral Assistant. Brother Michael holds Certificates in Youth Ministry, Lay Ministry, Liturgical Studies, and Spiritual Direction along with a Bachelor of Theology degree. He is a non-ordained Franciscan Friar (Brother), solemnly professed since August 2019. He is the Guardian (local leader) of the Franciscan community at The Mount, serves as part of the Retreat Team and is on the Canadian Franciscan Provincial Council.
His intellectual formation includes a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Munich, but now most of his writing is about faith and science. After a career in universities and biotechnology companies in the US and Canada, he changed course. He became a Franciscan Friar in 2008 and was ordained a priest in 2014. His scientific research interests were the mechanism of intracellular protein transport and the use of proteomics to understand disease mechanisms. Now they are the relationships between modern science, the Franciscan view of nature, and Christian faith. His ministry is in Montreal, with an emphasis on outreach to young adults and all others who try to understand their faith in a scientific-technological culture. His most recent publication is "Remembering Francis: Making Sense of Modern Life", available at Franciscan Institute Publications.
On this page, we share from time to time the things that our archivist found and wants to share with you!
