Lord, make your home with me

Lord, make your home with me

Fr. Thaddée Matura has delivered his literary legacy with Croire en Dieu pour croire en l’Homme: L’appel de François d’Assise au monde entier [Believe in God to believe in humanity: Francis of Assisi’s call to the whole world].

In Part I, the author states that God is constantly seeking to draw near to people, while leaving them free to choose whether to draw near to God. Believers are called to serve the Lord with all their heart by doing God’s will, which means moving past all obstacles that can harm their relationship with God. And he insists on persevering to the end.

Just like Francis of Assisi, any believer should welcome God into his heart, which is the highest level of intimacy in human relationships.

In the second part of the book, the 94-year-old Franciscan stresses the importance for people of welcoming God into their heart, which is the highest level of intimacy in human relationships. As the Gospel says, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23)

Fr. Matura concludes by emphasizing that being the home of one another is the summit of the gospel life, giving meaning to the expressions “sharers in the divine nature” and “we will make our home with him.”
