Pierrefonds Fifteen Ministers Provincial from ESC-OFM (English Speaking Conference – Order of Friars Minor) gathered this week at Saint Martin Retreat Centre as part of their twice-yearly meetings.

Leaders of the Franciscans from the United States, Canada, Lithuania, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Malta continued discussions they had begun in April, during their previous meeting, on justice and peace, the education and formation of Franciscans, as well as finances.

“In terms of finances, we had a conversation on Skype with the treasurer general in Rome. Our finances are in fairly good shape; we are giving out more than we are taking in, such as in Pakistan, in the Philippines and in Zimbabwe. One of the main challenges for our conference is to generate vocations, to encourage young people to join the Franciscans. But there’s no doubt that this way of life goes against the tide when it comes to the way the world is today. Still, I hope the way of life of Saint Francis will continue to carry on, 800 years later,” said Fr. Caoimhin Olaoide in an interview. Fr. Olaoide, an Irish representative and a Member of the General Definitorium in Rome, is one of the Franciscans present at Saint Martin Retreat Centre.

The Ministers Provincial of ESC-OFM will conclude their meeting on Friday.
