My celebration of the 800th anniversary of the passing of St. Francis into eternal life began in the summer. The Franciscan Institute of St. Bonaventure University had invited friars from all three branches of the First Order—Franciscans-OFM, Capuchin Franciscans, and Conventual Franciscans—for prayer, celebrations, and to listen to leading scholars talking about Franciscan life. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience fraternity, not just in my local community but in the greater context of the large Franciscan family.
